Ashburton Hospital is a large general hospital providing emergency and general surgical services, a range of visiting specialists in both the public and private health system, and community health services.
Ashburton Hospital is the centre from which a comprehensive range of inpatient, daypatient and outpatient and community based services are delivered. Ashburton Hospital has 74 beds and annually admits just under 5000 patients, cares for 1350 day patients and 12,000 patients attend outpatient appointments. The general operating theatre at Ashburton carries out 1700 operative procedures annually.
Ashburton Hospital has a maternity care centre with regular new parenting classes.
There are 16 general practitioners in the District, including two at Methven and one at Rakaia.
Ashburton District has four dental surgeries and visiting orthodontists.
There are five rest homes for the elderly plus a number of day care facilities and community based services for older people at home.
