Ashburton District hosts many varied local and national events during the year …..

Sunday 4th February seen the annual "Concert in the Park" held in the Ashburton Domain,  this year the concert featured "Copy Cats" and "The Beat Girls".  A fun afternoon/evening for all ages. 

Also in February Ashburton hosts the Mobilehome Extravaganza which is the biggest Mobilehome Show in New Zealand. A must attend event for buyers and sellers.

Throughout the summer months there are many water sport events including rowing, water skiing,  jet boating, swimming, fishing and  multi-sport events held at Lake Hood.

 In May each year “Wheels Week” attracts hundreds of enthusiasts to Ashburton, events include street parade, stock car racing, truck show, classic and vintage car run, housetrucker fair and many more events.

South Island Wearable Arts Awards is to be held in Ashburton on the 22nd of August at the new Ashburton Trusts Event Centre.  Entry classes are Revamp, Myths and Legends with a junior and open designer section.

The “Big Air” is winter time entertainment at Methven showcasing the talents of snowboarders where a huge ramp is built and snow is brought in by the truckload to the main street in Methven.

The search is on to find New Zealand's top Young Farmer in the 39th year of the National Bank Young Farmer Contest. The Challenge that is second only to the land. This is to be held in Ashburton from the 7th - 12th of July.

Ashburton District is home to many talented artists whose work is showcased each year in the Ashburton Arts Society Awards with guest exhibitors from throughout New Zealand.
